WHAT IS IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) measures your level of English for academic or professional purposes. The academic module is intended for those planning to study at a university where English is the spoken language. The general study module is designed for those who are living or planning to live. Work in an English-speaking country. The test is divided into four sections, each section covering 3 different language skills — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Listening and Speaking sections are the same for the Academic and General Training modules as for Reading and Writing. sections are different.
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
This book contains six complete practice tests for each study module; the test corresponds to the actual IELTS level. Each practice test is divided into four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing, Advertising Speech. These sections follow the order in which they appear in the actual IELTS test.
Although it is easier to complete the practice tests in this order, it is not necessary. You can study only the sections you want to study. You can learn them in any order.
STUDY FOR ACADEMIC MODULE
If you plan to take the Academic module, you can start with the Academic Practice Test and complete all four parts of the test. (See the chart on page v.) You can check your answers by reading the answer explanations. You can check your answers at the end of each section or at the end of all four sections. Answer explanations will help you understand your wrong answers.
If you are an Academic module examiner, you do not need to take the GeneralTraining module practice tests. The General Learning module does not contain anything that you see in the Academic module of the IELTS test. Of course, if you want to practice English more, you can learn more English by studying these sections. You can also improve your language skills and test-taking skills by studying BarronsIELTS, 2nd Edition.
